Blond Bond

The next James Bond, Daniel Craig, is apparently a very good actor. I have this from an unimpeachable source, my friend Cynthia who goes to the theatre a lot and has seen him on the stage. I saw him in the film “Munich” where he played a hit man and was quite deliciously ruthless. I can’t wait for the new Bond movie, which is apparently in the making as we speak. I feel Craig could be the best Bond since Sean Connery. I do hope he has an attractive little speech impediment, too.

Another chap who has apparently expressed a desire to play Bond is Robbie Williams. I have to say he has the smouldering good looks. He’s a bit young at the moment, but I think when he’s a bit older and has been to acting lessons he could make a fine Bond. He’d have to get rid of the Stoke accent though. That’s one speech impediment too far.

I have on occasion been compared to Rosa Klebb, usually by Harold when I was compelled to rein him in from a particularly excessive bout of lunatic behaviour. Quite flattering really, not quite on a par with the Divine Margaret whose gimlet eyes could freeze a gin and tonic (usually Denis’s) at 50 paces, but quite an accolade nonetheless. Bert had no idea who Rosa Klebb was. I had to show him a copy of Der Spiegel before he would accept that she is in charge of Germany.

I wonder how they’ll get on against Argentina next weekend. I have a feeling my England v Germany final might have to wait until 2010.

I can't approve of a man who has sex that often without fathering any children. We gorillas are shocked at the way Bond wastes his manly secretions.

I suspect the same about England v Germany, although it would be a corker in terms of excitement. Germany are playing so well they might beat Argentina. England are playing so patchily it's hard to know what'll happen v Portugal on Saturday.

I have high hopes for Daniel Craig as the new Bond too. He is sexy in a very particular way and is more charm than smarm. He's definitely a more 21st Century Bond.

Robbie Williams is no Bond, though, I have to disagree. I find him to be a twerp. I think the twerpishness might always shine through any acting talents he may have.

GB - have you written to M about this? This is a national security matter.

Sam - welcome, glad you agree about Danny Boy. Zoe & Marianne might rush to the Robster's defence though. I think his twerpishness is part of his appeal in a very English sort of way. As a Scot you would prefer Connery & Craig, I suppose. Your lot are always more rugged. Even the gay ones.

I think we can take the rushing to RW's defence as read.

I see your Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel, and raise you a Madeleine Albright. Nothing touches the Duchess of Dowager Bling.

Except perhaps Arlene McCarthy MEP. Still young, but shaping up very nicely on the tank-in-flowery-curtains front. Most likely to have been drowned as a witch before the age of 17, if only she had been born just a couple of centuries earlier.

Check her out on the European Parliament's website, if you dare.

Well I've got a great idea for his next year's Christmas present (whisper, whisper, whisper).

Is she still a virgin, I wonder? What was that makeover all about otherwise? I do hope not. I like to think of what she might shout at the moment of climax. "Michael!" perhaps?

Anne Widdecombe is possibly the only woman I can think of who has norks bigger than mine. Respect to her and respect to her corsetry manufacturers.

Michael, as in Heseltine?

*Shudder*

As in Howard. She always fancied him you know. When she said "something of the night about him", she wasn't referring to Hammer Horror films.

One of my bingo ladies was wearing a black skirt with red roses on yesterday. Beat that.

(It looked strangely suitable.) Maybe roses are back in. Whaddya say, Daphne?
