The Catholic Church in England and Wales says St Patrick's Day is simply not on the calendar of feast days this year. This week is known as Holy Week in the church and takes precedence over all saint's days.
Any saint's feast day that clashes with it is omitted from the calendar
I'd be prepared to wager a Guinness or two that although the party started on Saturday, it will run until some time on Tuesday morning.
Then again, most of the Irish were at Cheltenham last week for the festival, so they will have been drinking solidly for about a week.
I'm off out to try to find a pub that isn't celebrating Paddy's day, as they might all still have the hump after we thrashed them in the rugby. Sláinte!
I was celebrating in a modest fashion on March 1st. I was slightly more enthusiastic on Saturday sat infront of the TV and singing along with the crowd at the Arms Park!
Gambo, are you a left-footer? How handy. You need all the help you can get, supporting Charlton.
Autolycus, I have a vision of Riverdancing bishops in green cassocks!
GB, I think she coined the phrase "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em".
Lynx, there was a bit of a sports day in the park for the Europaddies on Sunday. Hurling, football, drinking, fighting, traditional Irish activities.
Sid, you big softie!
Pat, bejasus, another one with shamrock in her blood. That will account for your mad side then.
Brom, I think you must have been batting for the other side, in the nicest possible way. Are you Welsh, boyo?
Donn, riverdancing snakes would be a sight to see. We have already had riverdancing chimps!
Sam, why they're green my dear, so yes I was wearing something green on St Paddy's Day. How did you know that? And what is your first favourite dog? Mine is a St Bernard. They make me go completely daft. But I couldn't afford what it takes to feed one.

Apparently the Irish bishops were allowed to have it on the 15th.
I think there should be a St Patty's Day for poor old Patty Hearst. Who would have liked to have gone through what she endured?

I wish I could reach into the photo and pat the doggie's head! :D
What an absolute sweetie.
My Irish Gran named me after St Patrick. Which probably accounts for my holier than thou:)

I had planned to celebrate St Patrick's Day by reintroducing snakes to Ireland..
bloody do-gooder.
What colour are your eyes?
Irish setters are my second favourite type of dog. Those eyes, those ears that great daft nose and that long gangly lope - doggly perfection.
